Program Outcomes & Accomplishments

 

• REAP has a 4-year graduation rate of 90% for 2013 in comparison to Oregon’s 4-year graduation rate for 2013 was 68.7% and in Multnomah County school districts graduation rate of 66.6%

 

• REAP has an 80% college enrollment rate in comparison to 61% of Oregon High School Graduates college enrollment rate.

 

• REAP students play lead roles through internships and committee work for Oregon Department of Education, Legacy Health, Metro, TriMet and Multnomah County Youth Commission.

 

• 80% of REAP students are eligible for federal free or reduced lunch rate – a key indicator of poverty.

 

• In 2014 REAP hosted a black male student lobby day at the State Capitol. Over 20 students ranging from middle school to college participated in the House of Representatives opening ceremony, roundtable discussion with legislators and panel presentations with both the education and human services & housing committee.

 

• In 2013 REAP hosted a student-led City of Portland Mayor Debate that engaged over 300 high students

 

• In 2012 Mayor Sam Adams proclaimed the last Thursday of September the official REAP Day in the City of Portland.

 

• In 2010 Metro partnered with REAP to host Metro Councilors at various school throughout the Greater Portland area to participate in student-led forums to receive recommendations to improve government services to the community.

 

• In 2009 REAP was invited by Susan Castillo, Superintendent of Public Education, Oregon Department of Education to have REAP students to facilitate a student panel presentation to Directors of the Office of Educational Improvement & Innovation on teaching and learning best practices.

 

• In 2008 the Office of  Mayor Tom Potter, City of Portland chose REAP to co-host mayoral staff operations at Jefferson High School for an entire week and to facilitate community forums on campus with elected officials, community advocates, business leaders and educators to better address the educational concerns of students.

 

• In 2005 REAP in partnership with the Portland State University Black Studies Department developed curriculum and  implemented a black studies elective course at Grant High School in effort to close the achievement gap and increase teacher cultural proficiency. The program was later replicated at West View High School and Lincoln High School through 2009.
